General Care Instructions
Proper care extends the life of every Seth Milot piece. Below you'll find material-specific guidelines for leather, cotton, and canvas — designed to preserve quality, texture, and finish for years to come.
Water & Moisture
Leather goods should not be exposed to water as it can cause damage, such as discoloration or shrinkage. If the leather does get wet, gently pat it dry with a clean cloth and allow it to air-dry at room temperature.
Storage
Leather goods should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to avoid fading and drying out. When not in use, it's best to store leather goods in a dust bag or in a breathable container to prevent dust accumulation.
Cleaning
Leather goods should be cleaned regularly to remove dirt and dust build up. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the leather gently, and avoid using abrasive or harsh cleaning agents that can damage the leather.
Conditioning
To keep leather supple and prevent cracking, it's recommended to use a leather conditioner. Apply a small amount of conditioner to a soft cloth and rub gently into the leather. Allow the conditioner to soak in for several hours or overnight before wiping off any excess.
Handling
Leather goods should be handled with care to avoid scratches or tears. Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on leather surfaces and be mindful of sharp edges or surfaces that can scratch or snag the leather.
Professional Care
If your leather goods are in need of repair or deep cleaning, it's best to seek professional help. A professional leather cleaner can help restore your leather goods and ensure they are properly cared for.
Washing
Machine wash cold with like colors to preserve fabric integrity and prevent color bleeding. Turn garments inside out before washing to protect prints and surface texture. Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
Drying
Tumble dry on low heat or, ideally, hang to dry in a shaded area. High heat can cause shrinkage and weaken cotton fibers over time. Remove promptly from the dryer to minimize wrinkling.
Ironing
Iron on medium heat while the fabric is slightly damp for best results. Avoid ironing directly over printed or embroidered areas — turn the garment inside out or use a pressing cloth.
Storage
Store cotton garments in a cool, dry place with adequate ventilation. Fold knits and heavy cotton items to prevent stretching. Use cedar or lavender sachets to deter moths and insects naturally.
T-Shirts & Tops
Wash t-shirts inside out in cold water to preserve the print and collar shape. Reshape the collar and sleeves while damp before drying. Avoid hanging wet t-shirts by the shoulders to prevent stretching.
Socks, Scarves & Hats
Hand wash or use a delicate cycle for socks, scarves, and hats to maintain their form and elasticity. Reshape while damp and lay flat to dry. Do not wring or twist scarves — roll them in a towel to remove excess water.
Cleaning
Spot clean canvas with a soft-bristled brush and a mild soap solution. Work in small circular motions, focusing on stained areas. Avoid fully submerging canvas bags or accessories in water, as this can weaken the material and cause warping.
Drying
Allow canvas to air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated area. Never use a dryer or direct heat source, as high temperatures can shrink, stiffen, or discolor the fabric. Stuff bags with tissue paper while drying to help retain their shape.
Water Resistance
Canvas is naturally water-resistant but not waterproof. In heavy rain, water may seep through seams. Apply a fabric waterproofing spray periodically to enhance water repellency and protect against stains.
Storage
Store canvas products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Stuff bags with acid-free tissue paper to maintain structure, and store them in a dust bag. Avoid plastic containers, which can trap moisture and promote mildew.
Maintenance
Brush canvas regularly with a soft brush to remove dust and debris. Treat stains promptly — the longer a stain sits, the harder it becomes to remove. For stubborn stains, consult a professional cleaner specializing in canvas goods.
Hardware Care
Wipe metal hardware (zippers, buckles, D-rings) with a dry, soft cloth after exposure to moisture or salt air. Avoid chemical cleaners on hardware, as they can strip protective coatings and cause tarnishing.
